Ever since she was a small child growing up in rural Wisconsin and Illinois, Ramona Cook has loved picking up natural treasures on her walks in the woods and fields. Now she incorporates these treasures and natural images in her baskets. Made from pine needles, gourds, birch bark, pine cones, bone carvings and leather, the baskets often also bear images of woodland flowers and creatures.
Ms. Cook was chosen as an Illinois Artisan in 2005 by the jury for the State of Illinois' Artisan's Program. Her baskets are available from art galleries in Illinois and Wisconsin and by e-mail order. She will also make custom-designed baskets that incorporate your own special treasures, such as your favorite tree's pine needles and a gourd from your own garden.
